CDM Customizations

Open https://cdm15705.contentdm.oclc.org/config/configtoolresponsive in another browser window to work through this tutorial side by side.

There are many ways to customize your collections by using the Web Configuration Tool. To begin this tutorial, please sign in using your CDM login.

Upon signing in, the first screen you will see is the opening page for the GLOBAL SETTINGS. Changes made here will change the settings for ALL the collections - THIS IS FOR ADMINS ONLY! Please click on the Collections tab to proceed editing your collections settings.

Changing Your Header

1 of 3In the sidebar, you will find the top tab, "Appearance." Here, you will be able to adjust many of your aesthetic settings such as the Header, font, color scheme etc.

By default, "Use the global header, I've already configured." is checked. This default header is the PALNI header used on the Digital Collections homepage.

To upload your own header, choose "Use a graphical header" and upload a picture from your computer.

Changing Your Header

2 of 3You will note that the image will not expand the entire width of the screen causing a drop-off in color. This is not appealing to the user as it fails to look professional. To remedy this, select a "Background Color" that matches the background color of your header. You can find the exact color hex code using a program like Photoshop or Gimp, OR an online program such as http://imagecolorpicker.com/.

Save Changes and Publish.

Changing Your Header

3 of 3Don't have a image for the header? You can either contact Megan West (mwest@palni.edu) who will enthusiastically work with you to create one or you can use the HTML editor to create one.

***We do not recommend using the HTML editor as it is difficult to make the header look professional. ***

To create one using the HTML editor, click on "More header configurations" below the Save Changes and Publish buttons.

You will be presented with an editor where you can create your own header text.

Save Changes and Publish.

Choosing Fonts and Text Colors

In the same Appearance tab, click on the Text link to edit fonts and text colors.

Each section allows you to edit a different area's font and text color. It is recommended you stick with 1-2 fonts for optimum aesthetic appeal and consistency.
